Manchester United Stand to Profit from Mason Greenwood Transfer Clauses
Manchester United appear to have made the right call in finalizing Mason Greenwood’s exit. A season-long loan to Getafe only delayed the inevitable, and upon his return to England, the club allowed the winger to join Marseille permanently.
United included several favorable clauses in the deal to protect their financial interests. Should Marseille sell Greenwood, a significant portion of any profit will be owed to the Reds. Additionally, Getafe were given a 20% stake on any profit Manchester United make if Greenwood leaves Marseille—a clause that could allow United to earn even more by purchasing that stake.
Greenwood has thrived in France, scoring 42 goals and providing 12 assists in just 63 appearances. His performances have reignited interest from several clubs, including Atlético Madrid, who have reportedly been linked with an £87m move.
Ultimately, a club—likely outside the Premier League—will pay a transfer fee for Greenwood, and United are set to benefit substantially from both the clauses in the Marseille deal and the potential 20% stake from Getafe.
