3 former Texas Longhorns stars hit with allegations over 3 months

All coming months before the 2025 NFL Draft.

The Texas Longhorns have established themselves as a tour de force in college football, marked by the team’s 2024 SEC Championship appearance against the Georgia Bulldogs. Alongside its fierce team lineup, the program’s leadership under head coach Steve Sarkisian earned him a raise and contract extension earlier this year.

But amid the heights of the program’s success, some players have come under legal scrutiny amid allegations of misconduct and charges against them. Here’s a look at some of those cases and where they currently stand.

Earlier this month, former Texas wide receiver Isaiah Bond turned himself into the Collin County jail related to a sexual assault warrant filed against him, according to April 10 reporting from the Associated Press. He posted the $25,000 bail and denounced the claims made against him on social media, calling them “patently false.”

Youngest head coach in pro football history now coaches in S.A.

“Regarding the accusation made against me, I would appreciate the time and opportunity to defend myself and prove the claims made, patently false,” he wrote on X. “I am in full cooperation with the authorities and will remain a willing and active participant in the investigation. Unfortunately, claims like these prove to be harmful to all involved, absent full review. I kindly request that all reserve judgment until the authorities provide a complete report based on truth and evidence.”

After posting bail, Bond filed a lawsuit in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas last week, according to ESPN. That lawsuit centers around a defamation claim, where Bond alleges a woman made false statements to the Frisco Police Department about a sexual encounter with Bond.

Bond’s lawsuit requested both economic damages and a civil trial, according to ESPN.

A transfer who spent his first two seasons at Alabama, Bond caught 34 passes for 540 yards and five touchdowns in his lone season with the Texas Longhorns. He declared for the NFL Draft following the 2024 season.

Following a “mutual decision” to bow out of the Texas Longhorns last November, Johntay Cook II faced several legal charges in two separate incidents in February. Cook played for the Longhorns from 2023-24, catching 16 passes for 273 yards and two touchdowns.

On February 4, the Fort Worth Police Department arrested and booked him into a corrections center in Tarrant County on two misdemeanor charges (interference with public duties and property theft between $100 and $750).

“Officers responded to a call for service where the suspect was in the drive thru of a business, reached inside the window and took the victim’s car keys,” Fort Worth PD’s Brad Perez said to MySA in an email. “The suspect then left the location and was contacted by officers, did not comply with police commands and was subsequently arrested. Officers were able to recover the stolen keys.”

Sports Illustrated reported on February 14 Cook had been arrested in Grayson County and charged with marijuana possession of less than two ounces. Those charges were unrelated to the early February misdemeanors he faced.

Last week, Sports Illustrated reported Cook had re-entered the NCAA Transfer Portal following his exit from the Longhorns and a brief stint with the Washington Huskies. His short-lived stay with the Huskies ended with his dismissal from the team, with details surrounding his exit undisclosed. Cook recently visited the Syracuse Orange football team of the ACC, according to 247Sports.

Former Longhorn and Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy was arrested in Williamson County in March after being accused of assaulting his former girlfriend. After interviews with several witnesses, Williamson County’s district attorney opted not to file charges in the case.

In late March, Worthy filed a lawsuit in Williamson County against his former girlfriend, with his suit claiming she lied about allegations of abuse and instead alleged she attacked him and destroyed parts of his property after he asked her to move out of the home they lived in. Worthy sought between $250,000 and $1 million in the suit filing.

However, Williamson County court records from early April found an order granting non-suit was issued after the order request was made, meaning a voluntary dismissal in the lawsuit case was made.

Following his career with Texas (2021-23), the Chiefs selected Worthy as the 28th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, where he became the first Longhorn to score a touchdown in the Super Bowl.
